Malang, August 18, 2024—In celebration of the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the faculty, staff, and assistants of the Government Studies Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) participated in a flag-raising ceremony held at the UMM Helipad. However, this year’s event stood out from previous celebrations. What caught attention was the participants' attire, as many donned traditional Dayak costumes, while others showcased traditional attire from various regions across Indonesia.
“With these diverse traditional costumes, we demonstrate that Indonesia is rich in ethnicities, cultures, traditions, and religions, yet remains united as one nation. This reflects our national motto, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity),” said Muhammad Kamil, S.IP., MA, Head of the Government Studies Program.
He further added, “Let us safeguard the unity and integrity of our nation and honor the struggles of our heroes by filling this independence with meaningful contributions and innovations.”
The ceremony was also attended by faculty and staff from other departments, as well as employees from across UMM. Many participants chose to wear costumes representing their professions, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
The unique theme was well-received by ceremony participants, who expressed their pride and joy, feeling a closer connection to Indonesian culture through the traditional attire they wore.
With this event, the Government Studies Program aims to foster a stronger sense of nationalism and love for the homeland, while contributing to the vision of a more just, prosperous, and united Indonesia.
