This slogan, displayed on a banner by the Student Affairs Division of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, carries a meaningful message: it invites and encourages students to cultivate a love for research activities. There are at least two key reasons why research is essential: to advance knowledge and to solve problems.

The development of science and technology (IPTEK) does not emerge spontaneously but is the result of a series of scientific activities (research) conducted gradually, systematically, and methodologically. Such processes enhance existing knowledge and lead to new discoveries. Problem-solving also requires a sequence of research activities to achieve effective resolutions. Many issues, such as social conflicts, high poverty rates, and unemployment, stem from poorly informed policies. Inadequate research and lack of understanding of existing issues often result in flawed policies. Therefore, research plays a critical role in shaping sound policies to address societal challenges.

As agents of change and pioneers of transformation, students have an obligation to develop a passion for research. It is nearly impossible for students to enact meaningful change without a thorough, objective, and rational understanding of the issues at hand. Objective understanding requires more than mere observation, discussion, or participation in seminars within limited spaces; it demands research activities grounded in systematic methodologies.

Start cultivating a love for research today.
