Saturday, June 1, 2024 – The Government Studies Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held a quality learning session by inviting Mr. Dedik Fitra Suhermanto, M. Hub. Int., who delivered a presentation on Data Analytics with a focus on using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) application for research. This session was attended by students from the Center of Excellence (CoE) Program, particularly in the Professional Government and Politics Analysis class.

SPSS is an application used for processing statistical data, which is very useful in various research fields, including government and politics. During this session, Mr. Dedik explained the main functions of SPSS, such as data collection, data processing, statistical analysis, and interpreting research results.

In addition to explaining the theory, Mr. Dedik also guided students through practical exercises using SPSS. Students were invited to process data from a survey provided beforehand. Before the data could be processed using SPSS, it had to be cleaned and organized in Microsoft Excel to facilitate easier mapping later on. Once prepared, the data was transferred to the SPSS application. What initially appeared as a table could then be processed and visually interpreted in a more engaging way using SPSS.

This practical session on using SPSS provided students with valuable hands-on experience. It allowed them to deepen their understanding and skills in data processing using the SPSS application. Additionally, as Government Studies students will undertake Government Research Internships, the knowledge gained in this session will be highly beneficial for their future research activities. The head of the Government Studies Program hopes that the Center of Excellence (CoE) Program at UMM will continue to make a positive contribution to the academic and professional fields of government and politics.
