Natural disasters are a form of event that cannot be predicted. Natural disasters also cause damage to the surrounding area such as environmental damage, infrastructure, and others. Therefore, mitigation is needed which is an effort to reduce the risk of disaster.

Mitigation is an effort that has several objectives, namely to recognize risks, awareness of disaster risks, mitigation planning, and so on. In dealing with this natural disaster, one of the UMM Government Science Lecturers, Mr. Yana S. Hijri, who focuses on handling this disaster also gave his opinion.

"Mitigation is structural and non-structural. Structural is disaster prevention by repairing or improving infrastructure. Non-structural is disaster prevention by providing understanding to the community, such as providing socialization, establishing disaster prevention institutions, etc.," he said.

In terms of the formation of disaster prevention institutions, including the formation of a good and targeted disaster prevention information system. With a clear institutional structure related to who is responsible in the environment. This is done so that the community understands what steps will be taken and to whom the community reports when a disaster occurs.

In addition, disaster prevention or mitigation is not only done by the Government, but there must also be collaboration and participation from the community that can start from small things. "Disaster prevention or mitigation starts from small things, namely yourself and from now on, so that later it will develop into a habit," he added.

Starting something good even from a small thing has basically helped change the environmental conditions to be better, such as managing organic and inorganic waste, recycling waste, planting plants, etc. around us are included in small movements that can prevent natural disasters. Because the little things that we do repeatedly can become a good habit.
