Jakarta, August 26, 2024—Moh Syarief H., a student from the Government Studies Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and a participant in the COE (Center of Excellence) Government and Political Analyst Class, had the remarkable opportunity to intern at one of Indonesia's highest legislative institutions, the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI).
This internship offered Syarief new insights and invaluable experiences, transitioning from theoretical knowledge imparted in lectures about the functions and authorities of the DPR RI to witnessing these responsibilities in action, such as lawmaking, oversight, and budgetary functions.
“In my first week of internship, I was tasked with analyzing the opinions of the nine factions within the DPR RI regarding amendments to Law Number 19 of 2006 concerning the Presidential Advisory Council. During this process, I learned how to build strong arguments and conduct detailed analyses of data to support policy proposals. Interning at DPR RI has been one of the most valuable and enjoyable experiences for me. I had the chance to observe the entire process of discussions and decision-making firsthand. This experience also taught me the importance of precision and attention to detail in the legislative process. I now have a clear understanding of how the DPR operates and fulfills its duties effectively,” shared Syarief.
Syarief added, “Moreover, this internship has shown me the significance of a deep understanding of political dynamics, effective communication, and diplomacy in conveying information that influences policymaking within the DPR RI. These policies can have far-reaching effects, even at the district or municipal level.”
This opportunity has increased his readiness and confidence in facing professional challenges in politics and governance. The experience not only expanded his understanding of the DPR's functions but also equipped him with valuable practical skills.
"I am deeply grateful to the Government Studies Program at UMM for providing me with the chance to intern at the DPR RI for four months. Every piece of knowledge I’ve gained in my courses will be directly applied during this internship," he concluded.
