Malang, August 2, 2023. The political year leading up to the 2024 Election is in sight. At present the General Election Commission (KPU) has established the National Final Voters List (DPT). Along with this, the KPU stated that the number of voting rights users in the upcoming 2024 Election would be dominated by up to 60% by young voters in the age range of 17-39 years.
This phenomenon attracted the attention of one of the 2020 UMM Government Science Study Program students, namely Ahmad Fauzan. He conveyed, in terms of quantity, youth will dominate more, especially in terms of democracy which implements the majority of votes.
"As from the demographic bonus that has begun to be read, the dominance of youth in Indonesia is quite a lot which indirectly will also indicate that the 2024 election will be dominated by productive age," said Fauzan.
However, the political awareness of young voters still needs to be questioned. Fauzan explained, as part of the productive age group, one of the obstacles causing the decline in the political participation of the productive age generation is a crisis of confidence in the performance of power, especially the government.
"So, to increase participation, the younger generation must gain trust from the government again to carry out all responsibilities and mandates as well as possible and make them aware that political participation from the younger generation is very important for the direction of the nation's movement going forward," he said.
The role of the rapid development of technology is of course very influential on the participation of young voters. One effect is the flow of information that comes and goes. The speed of this information, especially through creative media which is currently favored by young people.
"The current political situation is certainly different from 5 or 10 years ago, in fact the dynamics of youth participation at that time were still heavily influenced by figures that were not optimally developed and tended to be out of date when measured by the present. But, now everything has changed and it has become an increasingly dynamic thing in every movement, where one of the main drivers at this time is the development of information technology," he said.
Finally, as part of the productive age group with voting rights in the upcoming 2024 election, Fauzan advised "For young voters including me, let's convey our voting rights, of course with the aim of achieving nothing but goodness and not only for a better future for Indonesia. fine," he concluded.
