Jakarta, August 11, 2024—Muhammad Mursid Salmi, a 2021 student of the Government Studies Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and a participant in the Center of Excellence (COE) Government and Politics Analysis Class, has been granted the opportunity to undertake an internship through the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program at the Ombudsman RI in Jakarta. The internship spans four months, running from July to November 2024.

Internships provide a valuable opportunity for students to develop skills essential for their future careers. For many students, securing an internship in Jakarta, especially at an independent institution like the Ombudsman, is a dream come true. In addition to gaining hands-on experience, interns have the chance to understand the role of the Ombudsman and its processes in handling public complaints. This motivated Mursid to seize the opportunity to intern in Jakarta, expanding his learning scope and gaining insight into how the Ombudsman RI addresses maladministration and public complaints from various regions across Indonesia.

Mursid shared that the selection process for the internship at Ombudsman RI is conducted nationally and is open to all. The first step involved sending an email to inquire about internship openings. Following this, the Ombudsman provided detailed requirements and procedures for application, along with information about the institution itself for prospective interns.

“I went through two selection stages: an interview with the Ombudsman RI and the submission of required documents, including my academic transcript, stamped forms, and a letter from my department. Shortly after completing these steps, I received the acceptance notification via email,” Mursid explained.

Interning at the Ombudsman has been a transformative experience for Mursid. Assigned to the Administration Division, he frequently participated in activities related to managing public complaint reports from across Indonesia. Through this program, Mursid gained numerous benefits, such as networking with fellow interns from various universities and applying public service theories learned during his studies at UMM’s Government Studies Program. One of his key achievements was aligning theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Additionally, he felt fortunate to meet and interact with prominent figures at the Ombudsman RI.

Mursid hopes his peers in the 2021 Government Studies cohort will continue striving toward their goals and take bold steps toward success.

“To all students of the Government Studies Program at UMM, keep learning and stay motivated. May everything we do contribute positively to the future,” Mursid concluded.
