Monday, May 20, 2024 – The Government Studies Program held a guest lecture with a practitioner in the Center of Excellence (CoE) Professional Government & Politics Analyst Class. The guest speaker was Danang Kurniawan, S.IP., M.IP., a consultant with extensive experience handling various public policy-related projects. He currently serves as the Secretary of the Director of Research at PT. Sinergi Visi Utama.

The topic of the guest lecture was "Analysis of Public Policy Implementation." Public policy implementation often does not proceed as initially expected, due to a variety of complex factors that influence the execution of the policy. According to Mr. Danang, political communication plays a significant role in how a policy is received and executed. Furthermore, the structure and capacity of the organization or institution responsible for implementing the policy also play a crucial role in ensuring effective policy implementation. Additionally, the availability and management of the budget are critical factors that must be well-prepared for successful policy implementation. At the same time, supporting regulations and clear procedures are key determinants of successful policy execution.

In addition to presenting the material, Mr. Danang also shared his experiences as a consultant. His company, PT. Sinergi Visi Utama, provides a variety of consulting services, including public policy, finance, regional economics, human resources development, transportation, tourism, environment, survey services, specialized services, and training for both central and regional government sectors. As an alumnus of the Government Studies Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Mr. Danang emphasized that graduates of the Government Studies program can work not only in government agencies but also as consultants, partnering with the government. His practical experience provided new insights to the students, enriching their understanding of the realities of policy implementation.

The Head of the Government Studies Program, Mr. Muhammad Kamil, S.IP., M.A., expressed his pride in bringing a practitioner and alumnus of the program, such as Mr. Danang, to participate in the Center of Excellence program. The Government Studies Program hopes that by continuing to organize such events, the quality of education can be enhanced and provide added value to the students of UMM’s Government Studies Program.
