Jakarta, August 9, 2024—Ayu Evita Sari, a 2021 student of the Government Studies Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), also known as Ayu, successfully secured an internship opportunity at the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN RI) in Central Jakarta. This internship is part of the COE (Center of Excellence) Government and Politics Analysis Class program, which Ayu previously joined in an extensive semester-long class with practitioners. The internship runs for four months, from July to November 2024. Ayu was assigned to the Innovation Center for Competency Development Management of Civil Servants (PIMBANGKOM) unit.
As part of her Government Research Internship Program, Ayu also conducted research on ASN Talent Management within the LAN RI environment, following the proposal she had prepared prior to the internship.
“I read from various sources and learned that the National Institute of Public Administration plays a significant role in ASN management. This is evident from one of its primary tasks and functions—researching, studying, and innovating ASN management to meet policy needs. This complexity and critical importance of managing human resources drew me to this internship,” Ayu shared.
During the first month of her internship, Ayu gained substantial knowledge, especially about developing competencies for civil servants (ASN) in underdeveloped regions. “I found this experience highly impressive because by gathering data, I could learn about the conditions of ASN in underdeveloped areas across Indonesia. Additionally, I had the chance to meet various stakeholders during our off-site meetings and FGDs,” she explained.
The FGDs involved key stakeholders, including internal PIMBANGKOM staff, the Deputy for ASN Studies and Innovation Management, the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Kementerian Desa PDTT), and PT Ara Indonesia as a consultant. These discussions provided Ayu with invaluable knowledge, encouraging her to think critically and adopt an open mindset about the development and management of ASN competencies in Indonesia.
Ayu was also tasked with designing and analyzing models for ASN competency development tailored to underdeveloped regions (DT). Beyond internal unit activities, Ayu participated in various LAN RI events, such as preparing for social service programs, contributing to the LAN Datathon Demo Day, supporting pre-anniversary activities, and joining the 67th LAN RI Anniversary celebration.
“These activities enriched my internship experience, providing both professional insights and personal growth,” Ayu concluded.
