The Center for Population Studies and Development Policy (PSKKP) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has once again collaborated with the East Java Provincial Office of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) to conduct research on population censuses. Dr. Tri Sulistyaningsih, M.Si., the Head of the Research Team, stated, "In 2011, we collaborated with BKKBN to conduct research on the population census. The research team successfully completed the study, and the research report was presented to BKKBN in Jakarta. Alhamdulillah, this year, in 2012, we are once again entrusted as a partner of BKKBN to conduct population census research. Hopefully, we can carry out this responsibility as well as we did last year," she said with enthusiasm.
Research on population issues presents its own challenges, as it requires mastery of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Dr. Wahyudi, M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, explained, "Population research demands expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, as it requires both descriptive data and numerical data. By combining these research methods, it is possible to produce objective population research that is scientifically acceptable," he explained about the forms and methods used in conducting population census research.
Collaboration with other institutions in research is essential for improving institutional performance. "Collaboration with BKKBN brings positive benefits in enhancing institutional performance and fostering a tangible atmosphere of education, research, and community service," said Wahyudi, the author of a book on social movements among farming communities, with enthusiasm.
To sharpen research analysis and strengthen partnerships, BKKBN organized a workshop on utilizing the results of the 2010 Population Census (SP) from May 22 to 26, 2012. Dr. Tri Sulistyaningsih, M.Si., was invited by BKKBN to represent PKKP of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at UMM in this event.
