Malang, April 24, 2024 – The Public Administration Student Association organized a discussion activity through a Film Analysis Forum. The goal of this event was to stimulate the students’ critical thinking and to enhance their appreciation for cinematic art.
The discussion was attended by Public Administration students from the 2023 batch. The theme discussed was titled “Shaping Educated Students Through Cinematic Works.” This theme was chosen to introduce an effective educational medium.
The film analyzed was titled AUTOBIOGRAPHY. The film tells the story of how power can become terrifying when abused, highlighting the shocking and unsettling consequences of unexpected events.
In this film analysis, which focuses on developing critical thinking through cinematic works, the activity was structured as a discussion and two-way communication between the facilitator and the audience. During the forum, the facilitator presented the film's content and arguments, which were then discussed by the participants.
“The tendency of humans or their negative instincts is to always affirm or idolize their own subjective truth to act. This often leads to the disregard of others' views. In the film, there is a political aspect, specifically paternalistic leadership, where the leader views subordinates as family, expecting loyalty and obedience while controlling and protecting them,” explained Zulfikri Osam Kelian, the facilitator.
Through this discussion forum, the students developed arguments, concluding that power can be abused by a leader, especially when that leader is a former general who is highly respected. Leadership style can be seen from three dimensions: benevolence policy, discipline and authority, and morality.
