From Campus to the Professional World: Inspiring Alumni of UMM's Government Studies Departement

Let’s meet Danang Kurniawan, an inspiring alumnus of the Government Studies Departement at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), who graduated in 2019. Currently, Danang works at PT. Sinergi Visi Utama, a consultancy firm specializing in governance services. He plays a vital role as the Secretary to the Director of Research at PT. Sinergi Visi Utama.

Danang’s responsibilities include bridging research activities with regional governments, central government institutions, and non-governmental organizations. Some of the strategic research projects he has been involved in include the Organizational Development of the Information Technology Agency at the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Evaluation of Sectoral Statistics Management in Tangerang City, Analysis of Regional Loan Capacity for the Provincial Government of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), Mapping Cross-Function Business Processes (SOP) at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Strategic Policy Development for Optimizing Regional Development Financing through Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility Schemes (CSR), Reorganization of the Secretariat General of the Judicial Commission of the Republic of Indonesia, and Studies on Public-Private Partnership Opportunities in West Papua and Papua Provinces, among other strategic research programs.

“These skills were honed through academic and non-academic activities during my time at UMM’s Government Studies Program. The quality of the faculty encouraged students to grow and actively participate in programs organized by the department,” Danang shared.

“I am proud to be an alumnus of the Government Studies Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. The program not only helped me develop through extraordinary learning experiences but also instilled Islamic values, setting UMM graduates apart from other universities,” he added.

The faculty members in the Government Studies Program have significantly influenced the personal development and career planning of their students. The program equipped Danang with excellent skills, and during his studies, he actively participated in both intra- and extracurricular organizations. Besides his current role at the consultancy firm, Danang is also pursuing his doctoral studies at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).
